I Fell In Love with an Owl

I've been looking at cribs for weeks now, and have finally decided on the one above. Our nursery is tiny, so we're opting for only the crib & dresser, and will use the dresser as a changing table too. I love all the drawers, and the mod circle pulls are really what caught my eye. The crib & dresser both have brown wood bases, which we plan to paint dark gray, to make it a bit more contemporary.

The walls will be a light gray, and the bedding is white & gray polka dots. I only purchased one fitted sheet and the bed skirt, and plan on registering for some more solid color (white, gray) crib sheets knowing I will need a few extras for when the polka dot one is in the wash. I'm still looking for the perfect curtains, but have a couple of inexpensive options from IKEA in mind, as well as the curtain rods.

The plan was to keep the nursery gender neutral - gray, white & grass green - and then add either lavender if we have a girl or orange if we have a boy, but today on Dwell Studio, I sort of fell in love with that little plush owl above.

The print is right up my alley, and included the gray, white and grass green we were already doing, but had a lovely teal and a light blue included. I thought "Hey, I'm a girl, and I LOVE teal, so I'm not sure this baby will care one way or the other..." In the cart it went. Along with the matching changing pad cover (which will liven up the plain white dresser a bit) and the little catchall basket, which I plan to fill with books, toys, blankets, and other odds 'n' ends.

The only thing in the images above I'm still looking for is the Herman Miller rocker. My oldest friend, Rachelle, used a similar one in her nursery (a gift to her parents from Herman Miller when she was born, as her father worked there...) when her daughter was born, and now I'm on the hunt. This is actually a photo of a knock-off, and if I can't find a gently used one locally, I may resort to buying a replica. I'm totally okay with that, since the price difference is pretty huge.

There you have it...I fell in love with an owl, and our nursery was complete!
Now, just to wait to fill it with a baby. 17 weeks, 5 days to go....

Super cute! LOVE this! Love the colors and the owl.

I did something similar as you... gender neutral with turquoise/teal as the dominant colors (with small splashes of orange) and was ready to add bright pink for girl (turq and pink - yes BRIGHT!) and chartreuse for boy. I don't know what people are talking about that they can't plan a room without knowing the gender... it's so fun! ;)

This is super cute, Aletha, and it's awesome to see some out-of-the-box ideas for a nursery. Three cheers for teal! :D
