Let the Holiday Season Begin

West Michigan got our first snow last Wednesday, and it put me right into the holiday mood. Since our house is small, I don't really go "all out" for decorating, since there isn't many places to actually decorate. The main focus is the Christmas tree, and the sofa table that holds our stockings. I did pick up a new piece of metal which hangs on the wall to display our holiday cards - can't wait to get some more to put up there!
This year, just like I did as a kid, Greg and I hauled ourselves to a tree farm - the same one we went to last year - to hunt for the perfect tree. My favorite trees smell pine fresh, have soft & short needles, and have few branches so I can tuck ornaments into the tree...not just on the exterior. I am 88% sure it is a Balsam Fir, but I'm not a tree expert, so that's a guess.
We went out yesterday afternoon, all bundled up, since it was freezing. Greg and I walked around for about 25 minutes looking for our tree. Since our living room is quite tiny, we needed something not too wide at the bottom, and of course nothing over seven feet would work in the space. After looking at many trees, we landed on this little beauty - and once inside the house, it proved to be just perfect!
We hauled the two boxes of ornaments & lights up from the basement and began testing the lights. Greg got three strings working for me, which was enough this year - we must have a smaller tree than previously, because we usually use at least five. After all my star shaped lights were one, up with the Old World ornaments, that I've been collecting since I was a kid. Then went up the new white ones, the old Margaret Furlong ceramic ones I've had for years, and then the silver beaded snowflake topper. I LOVE the new ivory tree skirt I found at Target, and the ivory knitted stockings I found at TJ Maxx are just adorable too.
After I get some of the presents wrapped and under the tree, I plan on posting a few photos of the adorable little Christmas tree we put together.
Off to sip my tea and wrap some gifts!

I think you picked a good one. The tree looks like a Balsam (I work a tree lot every Christmas). And, I totally love the smell of fresh trees.
I love these photos! Seriously, the vehicle, the tree, you and Greg...love it all! I know I have told you before, but I adore you!
Excellent tree! Can't wait to see it decorated! And I love that it's 88%. Not 85%, not 90%, but 88% sure. :-)
